We carry quite a few high-end men's grooming brands here at Grooming Lounge and if we didn't think each brands' products were great, we simply wouldn't carry them. That said, we do have a few favorite brands internally -- and most of the love we have for these brands is based on more than just the "juice in their bottles." You see, all the products in our lineup are really good -- they're tested and approved by our team -- so sometimes it comes down to other really selfish factors. We've listed some of those preferred brands and our rationale for digging them below:
This is a no brainer and probably no surprise at all. We're quite enamored with our house brand because a) we make it ourselves b) every single product works really well c) we use the products in our barbershops daily and d) we make some awesome margin on these items. Also, the people are very easy to deal with and the product names never fail to give us a hearty chuckle (Super Powder, The Shavior).
The English brand was one of the first we carried and Molton Brown has been an awesome partner since day #1. Their hand washes are standard gifts for when the Gilman's visit someone's house for a party or such (2x per year) and MB always hooks us up with great Freebies and Gift With Purchase options. Only annoying thing is they change the name of their products seemingly 7 times per year. That said, the stuff smells so darn great, we're OK with them calling a product Dewy Lily of the Valley & Star Anise Bath & Shower Gel.
Jack Black is a real story in entrepreneurship and hitting it big through hard and great work. These ladies and gent (Jeff D.) worked their behinds off, creating stellar products with simple packaging and ended up selling their brand to some big shots recently for a boat load of dough. They're a pleasure to deal with (even though they're all rich and stuff now) and always deliver on their promises. Their Beard Lube is also one of the best shaving creams in the world.
As one of the few men's online retailers with the rights to offer this Italian brand's products, we just gotta' like them for allowing us to partner with the brand. Add to that the products are respected around the globe and are real expensive -- and that's a recipe for solid sales numbers. Only downside to ADP is that they're owned by a big conglomerate -- and while very professional -- our margins kind of suck. If they gave us a little more in the margin arena, we'd push their great products a little more aggressively. Know anybody over there with the power to increase the margins of a long-time partner?
Really good products, small and agile company and the founder, Bob M., is a good guy. He's easy to deal with and has no airs about him. Always down for a great promotion and usually gets right back to us if we call (especially if we have a purchase order coming).
