Q: I’M THINKING ABOUT BUYING MY FIRST SHAVING BRUSH... HOW DO I START?

A: The two most important factors to consider when embarking on your first shaving brush purchase are usually quality and price. Higher-quality shaving brushes, such as Best Badger or Silvertip brushes, usually feature softer bristles that retain larger amounts of water and are softer on the skin. As for price, a less-expensive brush made with Boar or Horse hair won’t generate the same lather and feel as soft as a Badger or Silvertip version, but they’ll still provide a quality shave and intro to the world of brush shaving. Generally speaking, if you’re going to brush with greatness, we recommend starting with a Pure Badger Brush or better as you’ll get a great combo of quality, price and longevity.

Q: MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER WANTS ME TO GROW OUT MY BEARD, BUT AFTER A WEEK IT BECOMES UNCOMFORTABLE AND I BAIL. HELP?

A: This is the most common complaint we hear amongst early beard sprouters. As beards grow, the hair often becomes curly and dry, as does the underlying skin. The result is itchy, flaky dermis and the desire to reach for the nearest blade to remove the annoying growth. Most of this discomfort (and the unattractiveness of the dry stuff that goes along with it) can be remedied by consistently using a beard balm or lotion. Grooming Lounge Whisker Sauce or a comparable solution will provide whiskers and skin with the needed moisture to hydrate and soften and keep scratching and beard abandonment at bay.

Q: IS THERE A PRODUCT THAT CAN FIX DARK CIRCLES UNDER MY EYES?

A: Skin under a guy’s eyes is very thin and delicate and therefore very susceptible to dark spots and fine lines.  You obviously know a little something about this. Targeted eye creams are great for adding relief and inspiration to tired eye zones. For best eye results, combo a high-end daily eye cream with 8 hours of sleep every night and a healthy intake of H2O.  You’ll never say “eyes carumba” again.

Q: DO I NEED TO USE A FACE SCRUB AND HOW OFTEN?

A: Yep… you should be using a Face Scrub. They’re one of the Big 3 in a proper skin care routine along with Face Wash and Moisturizer. Face Scrubs clear away deep-rooted dirt and oil that a normal cleanser just can’t pick up. They’re also great for shaving results, as the scrubbing particles do a swell job of up-rooting pesky ingrown hairs. Did I mention that they’ll also improve skin texture, tone and balance. 2-3 times a week is ideal for a Face Scrub and the best bang for your buck is to scrub prior to shaving.

Q: WHAT DOES SPF ACTUALLY MEAN AND DO HIGHER NUMBERED SPFS LAST LONGER?

ANSWER: SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and it’s a relative measure for how long a sunscreen will protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Imagine that your skin normally begins to fry after about 10 minutes in full sun without any protection. A 30 SPF sunscreen would provide 30 times the protection of no sunscreen. That means 30 times longer before you start to burn, or in this case, 300 minutes. We strongly recommend using a sunscreen as much as possible, sun damage is the number one reason for premature aging.  And, use a sun screen even when it’s no super sunny out – those rays are still attacking your skin.

Q: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DEODORANT AND AN ANTI-PERSPIRANT?

A: Well, they both go about trying to make you smell less funky a little differently. Deodorants are made to fight odor, while Antiperspirants contain ingredients, such as aluminum, that clog pores to stop or minimize sweat. Most Deodorants contain either alcohol or a botanical blend designed to eliminate the bacterias which cause the odor.  If you have sensitive skin or you’re just looking for a deodorant with a healthier vibe, we recommend going with an aluminum-free and alcohol-free option such as Grooming Lounge Greatest Pits.
